e*Message Warns with House-number Precision

To warn is to make aware of potential harm or danger before it happens in order to minimise damage. In Germany, population warning is the task of state and its civil defence agencies. e*Message has been connected to the government’s satellite-based warning system (SatWaS) since January, 2004. In case of danger, SatWaS instructs the population to switch on their radios or TV sets to stay informed of the situation. But this system does not work at night or in the case of a power blackout. This has prompted e*Message to develop e*Warn, a novel warning solution that has been available since 2008 to bridge the safety gap and open new possibilities for population warning. In case of storms, natural or industrial catastrophes, the people affected can be warned, even at night, with precision down to the house number.
